This project is my first attempt at creating a machine world inspired by Nihei Tsutomu’s Blame! and Satisfactory. A procedurally generated first person survival game in an endless factory wherein the player can interact with production chains like in Satisfactory. A gutter-grid divides platforms that have specific functions like power generation, resource extraction or 3d-printing.
The project is a way to teach myself how to use the Unreal Engine 4 and Blender. I’ve started to get comfortable with blocking out levels, player pathing and working more efficiently with the assets I made myself in Blender. Blender itself was also new to me and thus had to follow a couple of tutorials to get to know the program. With the help of Quixel Megascans I made materials and also added some nice looking meshes to decorate the level.
I am using blueprints for interactions between the player and the world and improved in making tools for feedback. I also made a generic rpg quest system that unfortunately did not lend itself for this particular project which I then changed into a more simple objective system.
The next part of the project will focus more on random generation and the world itself will become more like a megastructure.
